The Department of Economics and Management of the University of Padova is seeking excellent candidates to fill the academic position of:

Assistant Professor (tenure-track) or Associate Professor (tenured) in Accounting
(13/B1 – SECS-P/07 Economia Aziendale)

Job Description and Position
The position offered is either at the Assistant Professor (tenure track) or at the Associate Professor Level in Accounting (scientific sector SECS-P/07 according to the Italian academic system), depending on the qualifications of the candidate. 

The Assistant Professor position entails a tenure track of three years and tenure is granted upon meeting the national requirements to qualify as associate professor. Teaching load is maximum 90 contact hours per year.

The Associate Professor position is tenured, full time, with a teaching load of 120 contact hours per academic year. 

The annual gross salary - net of employer-paid social security contributions - is approx. €37.000 (Assistant Professor) or  € 55.000 (Associate Professor). Whilst this is not negotiable, the faculty member will enjoy bi or tri-annual increases upon meeting targets as defined by the University of Padua. The salary is subject to employee-paid social security contributions and Italian income tax. Depending on individual circumstances (e.g., being non-Italian resident for the past two years), the successful candidate may qualify for generous tax exemption (here for an unofficial but clear explanation of the mechanism at work). 

Profile
The ideal candidates should have a PhD in Business, Accounting, Finance or Economics, or siblings’ disciplines obtained in Italy or abroad preferably between 6 and 12 years ago, therefore eligible to apply for an ERC Consolidator Grant. 

Applicants should provide evidence of a continued and sustained ability or potential to publish in recognized scientific journals in the following fields: financial accounting, management accounting, auditing, finance, and corporate governance. Publications in ‘A’ ranked journals according to the ANVUR and the Chartered Association of Business Schools (ABS) are especially valued. It will be preferred a teaching focus in accounting (e.g., Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Auditing, Corporate Governance, Valuation and Financial Statement Analysis) at the Bachelor, Master, or PhD levels either in Italian or English. Teaching at recognized international institutions is particularly valued.

The successful candidate must display an ability to work within national and international networks of scholars within their respective research clusters. 

The Department particularly values the ability in securing research funding through competitive bids both at the national or international level. Last, candidates should demonstrate a willingness in taking up service position at the Department level.

Qualifications and Requirements
According to the Italian legislation, eligible candidates must have formally obtained a PhD. To qualify for an Assistant Professor the candidate must have held at least three years experience as post-doc or assistant professor at a University or Research institute. Associate professors must either hold an equivalent position as Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer / Reader at a non-Italian Institution and/or qualify to act as ‘Associate Professor’ under the recent round of Abilitazione Nazionale.

The Selection Committee will consider applicants meeting the following conditions:
a) evidence of high-quality teaching and mentoring through student or peer evaluations.
b) evidence of the ability in securing research funds at the Department or University levels.
c) evidence of a consolidated experience in working with international scholars and activism in widely recognized academic societies (e.g. EAA, AAA, AFAANZ, etc..) 
d) fluency in English is extremely valued although not a necessary pre-requisite.

The Department is particularly interested in applicants who will contribute to the activities of the research group in accounting, as well as to the enhancement of innovative teaching. Interested applicants need to meet the following conditions: a) demonstrate a sustained track record in leading peer-reviewed international journals; b) evidence of high-quality teaching; c) ability to supervise PhD students and support early career researchers; d) proficiency in spoken and written English. 

About the Department
The Department of Economics and Management of the University of Padova was founded in 1989 and counts over 2000 students and about 70 faculty members conducting research in economics or business fields. The Italian Ministry of University and Research has included the Department amongst the Departments of Excellence for the period 2018-22 and awarded special funding to enhance research capacity. Since 2012 the University guide 'Grande Guida' ranks the Department among the top three institutions for teaching quality in the areas of Economics and Statistics. 

The Department ranked fourth in Italy in terms of research quality and productivity. Research carried out in accounting has been ranked third in Italy by the National independent agency (ANVUR).

Out of 850 assessed Universities, our Department is also at the top of the U-Multirank international ranking.  The working language of the Department of Economics and Management is Italian, whereas teaching is done mainly in English across the Masters, and PhD levels. More information is available on the website
