HealthyAGE
Health and Wellbeing of the Elderly
Scientific Responsible: ELISABETTA LODIGIANI
Project objectives: The HealthyAGE project will contribute to the scientific debate on health care utilization for the elderly. First, we will investigate the network of health care services for patients' chronic illnesses in the Lombardy Region in Italy. Second, we will expand the literature on the utilization of preventive care by investigating the determinants for cancer screening behaviors. Another issue addressed by the project is the income and financial well being of the elderly. We will investigate the determinants of financial risk preferences of the elderly, both in the native and in the immigrant population.
The rise in migration is another demographic trend which has recently characterized European countries. The inflow of immigrants produced a significant increase in the supply of workers, specifically those performing domestic services and providing elderly care.
In our project we will study the effects of migration on the health and wellbeing of the native elderly population in Europe. Moreover, we will investigate if job precariousness of immigrants impacts their health and health care utilization in the long run, and thus their likelihood of successful aging.
