MAnaging sustainability Tensions for Change

Scientific Responsible: VALENTINA DE MARCHI

Project objectives: Despite increasing pressure to reduce negative social and environmental footprints, many organizations do not achieve satisfactory results. The project aims to understand the factors that determine success or failure in addressing tensions between competing interests, such as profit and sustainability goals. We will examine the role of organizations' willingness and capacity, considering external pressures and available resources. To achieve these objectives, we will empirically analyze three contexts: the first involves the development of eco-friendly processes and how this affects companies' ability to manage the tensions between profit and sustainability. The second case focuses on the tensions among members of multisector partnerships, exploring how these organizations manage conflicting interests to promote sustainability. The third concerns the tensions that arise during the development of new products.
