Organizing for resilience: how do networks and firms face adversities?

Scientific Responsible: MARTINA GIANECCHINI

Project objectives: Companies are increasingly exposed to shocks, adversities, and unforeseen events. As a result, resilience has gained prominence in management research. However, current studies have focused on how individuals and organizations can anticipate and react to crises, overlooking how networks and collaborations among businesses can be designed to compete in an uncertain environment. The research aims to understand: 1) how we can define and measure the resilience of a network of companies; 2) what structural characteristics and managerial processes support a network's ability to anticipate, manage, and respond to adversities; and 3) how the resilience of a network influences organizational resilience and vice versa. The research collaborates with Retimpresa, which periodically conducts the National Observatory on Business Networks and network contracts. A combination of traditional and innovative research methods (case studies, surveys, quasi-experiments) will be used to collect data and develop an online interactive tool for assessing the resilience of business networks (Network Resilience Assessment - NRA). The research team consists of researchers from the University of Padua, Ca' Foscari University of Venice, LUISS, and the University of Udine.
