Simbiosi Aziendali: Recuperare Tessile Insieme
Scientific Responsible: ELEONORA DI MARIA
Project objectives: The project has a significant environmental and social character, especially due to the end-of-life of clothing items. Currently, only 1% of textiles produced globally are reused, while most end up in landfills or are incinerated, often due to the multi-fiber composition of garments that hinders effective recycling operations (the EU, with its 2020 Circular Economy Action Plan and 2022 Sustainable Textiles Strategy, recognizes the transformation of the sector toward a circular model as necessary). It is therefore urgent to create a network of actors focused on textile recovery to enhance and innovate the entire supply chain, improving management and reducing costs. If properly valued, textile recovery can become a valuable resource, reducing dependence on unsustainable natural and synthetic raw materials. The project aims to intervene in this area using the principles of industrial symbiosis as an effective tool for fully realizing the circular economy, and to create a network of stakeholders to experiment with this revolution in the Vicenza area, involving the two main universities of the Veneto project (UNIPD and IUAV).
