STARS Grant 2021

Alessia Russo from the Department of Economics and Management of the University of Padova was awarded a 2-year STARS Grant 2021 for her project 'Generationally Sustainable Institutions (GENESIS)'.

Her project aims at designing optimal institutions for the enforcement of sustainable intergenerational policies. Given that the costs associated with reforms of unsustainable intergenerational policies are huge, the goal of the project is threefold:
1) to provide a new theoretical framework for characterizing generationally sustainable institutions;
2) to develop a quantitative framework and numerical methods to analyse the welfare implications of optimal policies; and
3) to deliver fiscal rules for actual policy making that will enhance enforceability and flexibility.

Thanks to the STARS Grant, Alessia will hire a two-year postdoctoral fellow and organise an international Conference on Fiscal Policy and Intergenerational Sustainability.

Riccardo Domenico Saulle from the Department of Economics and Management of the University of Padova was awarded a 2-year STARS Grant 2021 for his project 'Global Warming and Economic Design: Theory and Applications'.

Countries coordination plays a fundamental role in the stability of international environmental agreements and such a coordination is mediated by several democratic institutions. The project studies a novel framework to implement effective international environmental agreements where group-based incentives are designed through the allocation of rights within institutions.

Thanks to the STARS Grant, Riccardo will hire a one-year postdoctoral fellow and run a lab experiment. He will also organise a Workshop on Economic Design and International Environmental Agreements.
