TitleClusters under pressure: impact of competition increasing to the relationships and innovation in two clusters in Italy

Abstract: Nearly one hundred years separate Marshall's writings (1890) on territorial clusters from early works about industrial districts (IDs) in Italy (Becattini, 1979). The discussion on the role of territory continues, that is to say, the approach is changed and it goes on to deal not just with the territory but also with the firm's managerial activity and with the  relationships of cluster firms with external sources of knowledge (Bathelt, Malmberg & Maskell, 2004; Dana, Granata, Lasch & Carnaby, 2013). Our contribution with this paper is to test empirically the relation between some cluster resources - horizontal cooperation, institutional support, knowledge transfer – and firm innovation with competition.
The empirical support is provided by the analysis of two clusters/districts: the Arzignano area and the Riviera del Brenta, localized in the Veneto region.
